Equipment

The club will provide all the cricket equipment required for our sessions, however you are welcome to bring your own.

Equipment

  • Appropriate footwear is required (trainers or cricket boots). Spiked footwear is not permitted in Barnes cricket nets.
  • When playing with a hard cricket ball, a box (abdominal protector) should be worn when batting or wicketkeeping. For hygiene reasons we recommend that each child should use their own box. Protection is only afforded by the box if the child is also wearing suitable underwear. Boxer shorts are not suitable in this respect as they do not retain the box appropriately. Parents / guardians must ensure that suitable underwear is worn otherwise the child will be unable to participate in activities with a hard ball.

Volunteers

Part of running an active Colts section is the need for PARENTS to assist with coaching, officiating, team management, etc.Volunteers

We run a “Coach the Dads and Mums” program early in the summer.

This help parents guide their kids and their mates playing when “test matches” in the back garden and at the beach on holiday. It also makes the Sunday morning colts sessions even more fun & productive for the kids when parents get involved.

Our ECB Level 3 coach, Ian Butcher, leads the adults through the following…

  • basic health & safety aspects;
  • basic batting, bowling and fielding techniques
  • fun drills to improve skills
  • mini cricket match organisation

These sessions will have a nominal charge to cover Butch’s cost and we donate the excess to our “Cricket in Rwanda” charity, so we can keep helping the 5,000 Rwandan kids who play on the one and only cricket pitch in their country.

If you are interested, please contact Laurie Cadle or Ian Butcher
